Mission
To preserve, protect, and defend the urban wilderness of Glendale and the
Crescenta Valley for the benefit of future generations.
Background
V.O.I.C.E. (Volunteers Organized in Conserving the Environment) formed in
response to a proposed development in the Verdugo Mountains known as Oakmont
View V. VOICE wants to protect this open space and develop an acquisition
strategy by working with the City of Glendale.
VOICE’s mission is to preserve, protect and defend the
urban wilderness in Glendale and the Crescenta Valley for the benefit
of future generations.
In particular, Oakmont View V calls for construction
of 572 homes on 238 acres of hillsides west of Montrose and the Oakmont
Country Club. If developed, up to 3,000 mature oak, sycamore and bay laurel
tress will be destroyed. A blue-line stream and a riparian oak forest
will be destroyed.
