Background
The Himalayan Arts Council operates under the aegis of the Pacific Asia Museum.
The richness of tradition which Himalayan art and culture reflects has fascinated Westerners for centuries. In the past, for political reasons, many Himalayan countries closed their doors to Westerners and knowledge of Himalayan art and culture was limited. With the passage of time, these countries are now sharing their cultural heritage with the outside world.
The Himalayan Arts Council is the only council in Southern California devoted exclusively to the study of the Himalayas and serves as a guide and liason to this fascinating region.
