July 2006: Community Wire urges all patrons of local bookstores -- particularly freelance writers and photographers -- to investigate the incident between freelance photographer Michael Yon and Shock! Magazine, in which Shock! used Yon's famous photograph on their premiere cover without permission nor payment. Publisher HFM has denied responsibility rather than taking action. Big-chain stores such as Borders Books have sided with the publisher for the sake of continuing business rather than taking a stand for justice.
